Small Bathroom Renovation Ideas to Make the Most of Your Space

Plenty of Illawarra homes have small bathrooms, and with the right design choices, a compact space can feel surprisingly open and luxurious. Here are some of the ideas we use most often to get the best out of a small bathroom.
Go frameless on the shower
A frameless glass shower screen lets your eye travel across the whole room rather than stopping at a framed enclosure, which instantly makes the space feel larger. It also looks clean and modern and is easy to keep that way.
Choose larger, lighter tiles
Large-format tiles in light, neutral tones mean fewer grout lines and a more seamless look, which helps a small bathroom feel bigger. Carrying the same tile from floor to wall, or wall to wall, avoids breaking the space up visually.
Get things off the floor
- A wall-hung vanity exposes more floor, which tricks the eye into seeing more space.
- Recessed shelf niches in the shower keep bottles off the floor without bulky caddies.
- A wall-mounted or back-to-wall toilet keeps the footprint tidy.
Maximise light
Good lighting and a large mirror do a lot of heavy lifting in a small bathroom. A big mirror bounces light around and visually doubles the space, while a window or skylight, where possible, makes the room feel fresh and open.
Don't forget storage
Clutter makes a small bathroom feel smaller. Mirror cabinets, vanity drawers and a niche or two keep everything tucked away, so the space stays calm and uncluttered.
